To restore the Sea of Galilee to its status as a natural and cultural asset and as a tourist attraction, a decision was taken to promote the creation of a marked foot path around the Sea of Galilee as close as possible to the water's edge.
The 60 km long path will integrate with existing trails and interconnect the various tourist attractions dispersed around the Sea. With the support of the 60th Anniversary Administration, sections of the foot path will be made accessible to the physically challenged.
SPNI CEO Gershon Peleg: "The foot path around the Sea of Galilee, initiated by the SPNI, will get us all back to hiking around the Sea of Galilee and will open up the shoreline to all. The purpose of the foot path is to enable every one to get close to the Sea and to walk along the entire shoreline. The foot path, cut and cultivated by thousands of young volunteers over the years, opens up beaches that had been closed off to the public for a long time, and is gradually enabling hiking around the Sea of Galilee on foot.

We hope that in marking Israel's 60th anniversary, development of the foot path will help to restore the Sea of Galilee to its rightful place as Israel's national sea and as a source of attraction for Israel's nature lovers and hikers."
The walk path around the Sea of Galilee is a national-infrastructure initiative, being implemented in collaboration with the SPNI, and one of the projects underway in the year of Israel's 60th anniversary.
Resources will be mobilized to develop the foot path according to the highest standards and to enable convenient access.
