An exhibition dedicated to the stories of the holocaust survivors in Israel will open at the exhibition hall at Yad Vashem on the 28th of April, marking 60 years of Israel's independence. The exhibition will be named "this is my home - holocaust survivors in Israel" and the Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and the Minister Ruhama Avraham Balilo will participate in the exhibition's opening.
The exhibition displays the influence holocaust survivors have made on Israel's public sector of during its 60 years of existence. The exhibition will present the different means of expression chosen by the holocaust survivors (painting, music, photography, writing and more) and their influence on the Israeli society and culture. The exhibition will expose many images that are perceived by the public as purely Israeli and are in fact created by holocaust survivors.
Parallel to the exhibition, a unique album named "We are here - holocaust survivors in Israel" has been produced.
The album tells the story of holocaust survivors following their arrival at Israel, the dramatic story of their integration in the Israeli society, the great mark they have made in the Israeli society and their transformation from a group fighting for its position in the community to becoming the leaders and cultural heroes of the Israeli society. The album presents the important contribution holocaust survivors have made in different sectors: social, political, in security and defense, jurisdiction, medicine, research, science, literature, theater, the film industry, arts, dance, music, design, sports, fashion and more.
The album includes hundreds of photographs capturing 60 years of memories, poetry, prose and art works created by holocaust survivors.
