"The Hebrew Book Fair" is traditionally celebrated at the beginning of the summer. The tradition began following the initiative of Israel's 10th anniversary celebrations committee.
This year, fifty years after the first book faire, the "Hebrew Book Faire" events will mark 60 years under the slogan "We are all Children of the Books". Book fairs will be located at dozens of locations across Israel and will include thousands of stools that will present tens of thousands of new and old Israeli books.
As the 60's celebrations emphasize children and youth, there will be a range of fun activities and cultural events aimed at the young audience.
The events and activities will include:
- Marionette Theater: the actress Liora Schlezinger will host the best writers in her show.
- Children's plays: "Cinderella", "Aladdin", "Thumbelina".
- Musical stories for small children based on classical stories: Old McDonald had a Farm, Puss in Boots, Little Red Riding Hood and more.
- The Circus World - a fascinating circus show for the entire family.
- Continuous activity for young children - "Baby Book", drawing and coloring children books characters, creative workshops, book characters puzzles.
- Continuous activity for children: creative workshops: floor drawing- graffiti, chapel - creating models with wood pieces, intelligence games.
- Adult activity - guest lectures - writers, animators and others.
100 publishers will participate in the book faire presenting an enormous, unique selection of books from all times.
"The Hebrew Book Faire" will be held at: Jerusalem, Haifa, Tel Aviv, Be'er Sheva, Kefar Sava, Rishon Lezion, Ramat Gan, Holon, Petah Tiqwa, Natanya, Herzliyya, Modiin and many other locations including Sderot and surrounding settlements and the Northern border.
The largest book faire will be located at Rabin Square in Tel Aviv, for the first time in six years after the book faire has moved to Ganai Yehoshua Park. The events will include plays and performances based on known children tales, creative workshops, a reading area for children including a reading tent at which children will be able to meet writers.
Many other events will also be held at the leading book chain stores (Tzomet Sfarim, Steimatzky, Dyonon and more) at children and youth centers, at coffee shops and community clubs.
