As part of Israel's 60's celebrations, the Environmental Protection Office will conduct an event honoring environmental activity since 1948 and until today. the event will be held at Caesarea National Park on the 16th of September 2008 will be honored by the Israel's President, Mr. Shimon Peres, the environmental Protection Minister Gideon Ezra, Ruhama Avraham Balilo, the minister in charge of the 60's celebrations. Unique and prestigious awards will be awarded to people who significantly contributed to environmental protection during Israel's 60 years of independence.
Yaacov Tircle, the (retired) Supreme Court judge will be the head of the judging committee, along with the CEO of the Environmental Protection Office, General (reserves) Shai Avital, the founder of Intel Israel, Dov Frohman, the writer Sami Michael, the academic, Professor Tamar Dayan, the media person, Moti Kirshenbaum and the representative of the environmental protection parties, Neomi Tzor.
According to the Environmental Protection Minister, Gideon Ezra, who appointed the judging committee to recommend the winners of the awards, dozens of people who contributed to the promotion and development of environmental issues since the establishment of the State of Israel will be revealed. The Minister is also calling for the public's involvement in the winner's selection by submitting their suggestions of worthy nominees who have been environmentally active at the local and national level.
As part of the event, 10 awards will be given to people who significantly contributed to Environmental Protection. The awards will also be given to those who are no longer alive. The award winners will be given a certificate from the president and a prestigious statuette, uniquely designed for the award by one of Israel's leading artists.
The areas of activity included in the definition of the award are:
Conservation of animal life and vegetation, conservation of open areas, environmental resources protection, the promotion of environmental awareness and education, energy saving and conservation, water matters, cleaning of public areas, environmental research, environmental jurisdiction, public activity for the promotion of environmental matters, voluntary activity in the field of environmental protection and the quality of the environment, the development of environmental infrastructures, technological developments that have an environmental influence, environmental planning, media and advertising.
Every Israeli citizen is entitled to submit their nominee proposal, while taking into consideration that the nominee must be an Israeli citizen and resident.
The winners will be chosen by the members of the judgment committee.
The nominee proposals must be submitted until 15/06/2008.
