The Israeli Theater Awards ceremony will be held this year for the 12th time, on Friday the 4th of April 2008, at Gesher Theater.
The ceremony awards will be granted according to 18 categories summarizing the theater industry in 2007. The award winners are actors, writers, producers and theaters chosen by the academy members. In addition, a life's work award will be given to a person who has made a significant mark on the Israeli theater.
To celebrate sixty years to Israel's independence, the ceremony's program will focus on 60 years of Israeli theater and will be conducted in the presence of actors, writers, producers, theater managers, theater personnel, media personnel, Ministers and public figures.
The Israeli Theater Awards began 12 years ago following the initiative of the repertoire theater managers in Israel who wished to promote the art of theater in Israel. There are 120 academy members including representatives of different creator's unions, musicians, stage managers, actors, designers, theater halls representatives, academy and representatives of the public who are academy members. The academy members watch all the nominated plays and send voting forms rated according to their professional and personal understanding and taste.
The judges Sheli Timan, The District Court Judge (Chairman), accountant Alex Hillman & accountant Sarah Goldman collect the voting forms and rank the winners, who's names are only announced on stage at the ceremony it self.
The ceremony is managed and produced by the Israeli Theater Awards Association headed by its CEO Itamar Gorvitz.
