Zephath Klezmer Festival opening ceremony / 18.08.08

The Zephath Klezmer Festival marking 60 years to Israel
 

The klezmer festival is held at Zephath for the 21st time, opening on the 18th of August and lasting for three days.

This year the festival will be marking sixty years to Israel's independence. The festive opening ceremony will include maestro Giora Feidman, one of the top klezmer players around the world and an international clarinet artist. Feidman combines klezmer music with classical music, jaz music, and Tango music from his homeland Argentina, accompanied by 60 of his pupils playing before thousands from Israel and abroad.

The maestro Giora Feidman will host the world's leading klezmer artists, including: professor Philip Copper, the first clarinet player of the opera house in Paris, Helmut Heizel from Germany, the bandoneon player from Uruguay Raul Huarna, the president of the Music and Dance Academy in Jerusalem, professor Ilan Schull, the clarinet artist (and the art manager of the festival) Hanan Bar Sela, professor Gersh Geller and the Eight Saxophonists of Jerusalem and many other musicians from Israel and abroad.  

On the 11th of August, approximately a week prior to the festive opening ceremony, workshops will be open for the general audience including various klezmer performances. The festival, which will be open on the 18th of august will be spread in different areas of Zephath and will include klezmer performances and Jewish music played by the best international klezmer artists.
